TURNING STONEchoice (TSC) believes in our children – their resilience, their strength and their potential. The TSC mentoring program was created to provide a means for the children in the schools and the community to become intrinsically empowered and motivated while building lasting relationships. As young people benefit from the positive influence of peers and adults, students need opportunities outside of school to learn and develop new skills and interests. Our mentoring program can play an important role in the life of an individual.
TSC is currently working with small groups of high school students in the schools and mentoring them towards a path of positive choice making and critical life skills. Mentoring brings policy to practice. One of the biggest building blocks for a successful and fulfilled person is confidence. It is a hands-on opportunity to help support our youth and strengthen our schools and communities. If children are given the right skills to cope with life’s ups and down, their self-esteem and belief in themselves will lead to positive choice making.
Support for education
Mentors help keep students in school.
Students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class (Public/Private Ventures study of Big Brothers Big Sisters).
Mentors teach young people how to relate well to all kinds of people and help them strengthen their communication skills.
Mentors help young people set career goals and start taking steps to realize them.
